A favorite way to spend a day, running some trail.

24 years of running experience, 19 of those years mostly focused on ultra with 7 of those years running professionally.

James ran his first trail race at 9 years old – the Mt. Ord Marathon (4,000’ of gain in the first 7.5 miles).  At the age of 10 he ran 53 miles at the Across the Years 24 Hour race in PHX.  At the age of 11 he ran the Crown King Scramble 50K in 5:09 finishing 19th overall (that would have placed him in the top ten at this year’s event!).  He’s gone on to run Western States 100 Mile (12th place), JFK 50 Mile (9th place), Leona Divide 50 Mile (winner), Zane Grey 50 Mile (winner), Born to Run 100 Mile (winning in a course record time of 15:58) and the list goes on.

James has been coaching athletes (high school to 100 milers) for 5 years.  He also coached cross-country for two years at PHX’s Central High School and currently coaches at North Phoenix Prep for the past 3 years. He puts on his own AZ Distance Camp in September in the Mingus Mountains.
